Diablo 2 - Class concept
2nd year exercise
For this exercise, the challenge was gathering every information on how classes were made in Diablo 2 by using the available wikis.
For example, after I had the idea of the class, I had to look up how skills in Diablo 2 evolve & their usual "archetypes" to not stray too far away from the game's identity.
EXERCISE INSTRUCTIONS
Based on the game “Diablo 2”, its universe and its gameplay, you are asked to produce the following elements:
A new playable class for the game
This class must be consistent with the game's universe and other existing classes.
Skill trees for the new class
Like the other classes in the game, this class must have 3 skill strands. You need to produce the overall concept for this class's powers, break it down into three strands and present the concepts for each.
The details of a skill stream
Choose one of the strands you've selected and propose a complete tree based on the structure of the skill trees of the classes.
Innovative evolution mechanics
You must propose an innovative skill evolution mechanism for this class. In the original game, when a character passes 1 level, he receives 1 skill point to invest in one of his character's available skills. You are asked to come up with a more modern mechanic that is consistent with the narrative identity of the class you have invented.
A self-analysis document
In a separate document, you'll need to effectively explain your design choices. The emphasis will be on the coherence of your choices and your ability to convey them clearly. The narrative identity of your class and the internal logic of how Diablo 2 works must be the starting point for your gameplay choices.
This document should make it easy to understand your choices and explain guiding elements such as synergy possibilities or how you imagine the class could be played.
